Not every gift to St. James’ has received a warm reception. In 1890, when the church was still lit with oil lamps, Miss Rebecca Barron offered to have the church wired for electricity. The Vestry, however, hesitated to accept the offer until the Women of St. James’ guaranteed to cover the added expense of operation.
