My excuse for this photo is that it shows the tower clock the Thayer family donated in 1873; my real reason is to celebrate Jesse R. Reed, steeplejack, who in 1916 was repairing and painting the tower. The marvel here, at least for those of us who are not completely at ease with heights, is that Jesse, in this photo, is standing atop the cross, waving.

The cross was replaced in 1980, the new one put in place by Fred Tanner.
